How It All Began
Our Koi Pond, built in the summer of 2013, started the journey. Our Ohana (family) had so much fun building the koi pond and watching the fish and tropical plants grow yearly. This was attributed to the warmer weather and climate change temperatures.
Loving and missing our home & roots of Hawaii drew me to plant tropical plants around the Koi Pond.
Today, our whole property has turned into a farm of Taro/Kalo, banana, hibiscus, fern, plumeria, ginger, ti leaf, and lilikoi plants.
What started as a tropical koi pond hobby evolved into a tropical produce business called Aloha Gardens, LLC, officially birthed in April 2017.
Dec 2022, Tampa, Florida
In December 2022, Manny was able to start a Tropical Plant “Test Bed” at his oldest son’s house in Tampa, Florida. The initial cultivation of Kalo became reality.
Dec 2022 – Oct 2023
This propelled the need to look for land in the Tampa, Florida area and begin the process of expanding Kalo and other tropical plant cultivation on a commercial scale.
In 2023, we focused our attention, on the steady distribution of our Kalo with the “KaloBuyDaBundle” product. From August to October 2023, we delivered over 70 bundles of product to seven East Coast cities. Distribution of the Kalo leaves went from Baltimore, MD to Sarasota, FL.
In early Oct 2023, the Expansion of Aloha Gardens from Hampton, VA to Tampa, FL is a reality. Manny gathered his first batch of potted plants from the Hampton, VA operation and transported the plants to the Tampa, FL Test Bed.
We (me, myself, and I) are now working with an agricultural realtor in search of our first land purchase of 3-5 acres of cleared agricultural property.
